Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 1 cup mixed red, green, and orange bell peppers (sliced)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon cracked black pepper
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce or hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil or neutral cooking oil
  • 2 cups steamed jasmine rice

Instructions

  1. Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat until smoking hot.
  2. Add sesame oil and sear sliced beef until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove from pan.
  3. Lower heat slightly; sauté onions and bell peppers in the same pan until softened (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Stir in minced garlic for an additional minute until fragrant.
  5. Return beef to the pan; add soy sauce, oyster/hoisin sauce, and cracked black pepper. Mix well and simmer briefly.
  6. If desired, thicken with a cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with cold water and adding it to the stir-fry.
  7. Serve hot over steamed jasmine rice; garnish with chopped cilantro or green onions.
